A new clip from a teaser for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 has just accidentally revealed a major twist, one that tragically parallels a key moment in The Mandalorian. The Bad Batch season 3 premiere has already proven it will be the biggest of the animated series yet, and certainly a massive conclusion to the show as a whole. The new season has also already connected itself deeply to The Mandalorian, particularly with Emperor Palpatine’s Project Necromancer. One new clip, however, creates yet another connection, and it’s a devastating echo of one of the show’s most memorable moments.
The Bad Batch Season 3 Premiere Ending Explained: Omega’s Force Connection & Palpatine’s Plan
Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3’s premiere shakes Star Wars history to the core. But what does the ending mean for Omega and Palpatine?
Shared by Lucasfilm, The Bad Batch teaser shows a series of clips packed full of action and memorable character dialogue. Some borrow from the three-episode premiere, most notably Emperor Palpatine’s appearance and Nala Se’s warning of danger, but many are also brand-new. One of these new clips shows Clone Force 99‘s ship, the Marauder, being blown up – with Wrecker and their gonk droid, Gonky, being thrown by the blast.
This has quickly drawn comparisons to the iconic destruction of the Razor Crest in The Mandalorian season 2. While the Razor Crest blowing up was a complete and utter shock to viewers in the context of the story, it seems Star Wars learned its lesson and is now warning viewers ahead of time of what’s to come with this sneaky reveal of the devastating moment. Now, the fanbase is reacting to the news of the Marauder‘s fate – and starting to mourn their beloved ship.
User hellikait draws the direct comparison between the visual of the Marauder‘s destruction and that of the Razor Crest, reminding viewers just how closely this new moment in The Bad Batch is echoing one of The Mandalorian‘s most painful moments.
User hunterbadbatch insists that “THIS IS THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE,” a valid response to what will surely be one of season 3’s most pivotal and shocking moments yet.
Meanwhile, Social Medea has already taken to memeing this moment in the best way possible, writing that “IT’S MARAUDOVER” for Clone Force 99, their fanbase, and the beloved ship – a play on the “It’s Joever” meme.
User ravngers posts the Wrecker and Gonky freeze-frame and puts it alongside an image of Mr. Krabs and the Krusty Krab blowing up in SpongeBob SquarePants, clearly using humor to cope with the devastating situation.
User serrinatano is choosing to be “delusional” by insisting it may be a ship that happens to look like the Marauder, but the statement isn’t too delusional at all. It’s quite possible this could be a fake-out by The Bad Batch team, who’s certainly been known to play around with the fanbase in good fun.
User techslander has chosen the gut-punch of reminding viewers exactly what lies within the walls of the Marauder that has now been lost, including Tech’s goggles and Omega’s and Wrecker’s shared Lula doll.
The Marauder’s Destruction Hints At Clone Force 99’s Future
The destruction of a ship is not a decision that’s made lightly, as evidenced by the Razor Crest in The Mandalorian. Din Djarin losing his ship was meant to symbolize that his life of bounty hunting was also being left behind, as he acquired his new Naboo N-1 starfighter later on with a perfect place for his adopted son to join him. The same goes for the Marauder; the destruction of the ship they’ve flown ever since the Clone Wars likely means that Clone Force 99 will be moving on from their way of life as soldiers into something different.
Life on Pabu in The Bad Batch season 2 showed that Clone Force 99 can, and likely want to, lie low once they have Omega and Crosshair back, and the Marauder‘s destruction could be foreshadowing this decision. It also, however, could be a sign that Clone Force 99 is heading in a new direction with their fight, dedicating their lives to the secretly-blooming rebel cause or perhaps even staying on the run to keep Omega safe from the Empire. Either way, The Bad Batch has certainly changed the fate of its characters forever with this massive twist and The Mandalorian parallel.
