Anyone But You 2 Has a Strong Chance of Happening
While it’s unclear what exactly Powell and Sweeney were discussing, it’s also fair to say that a sequel to Anyone but You is definitely in the works. Despite a slow opening on the weekend of December 22, the film eventually became a sleeper hit for Sony, accumulating more money by each subsequent weekend of its release, exceeding expectations and breaking impressive box office records. As a result, the movie was re-released for Valentine’s Day, featuring additional material and an introduction from Powell and Sweeney.
Adding fuel to the fire of sequel rumors, Powell played coy on whether it is happening in the comment section of E!‘s Instagram post. Responding with a mouth-shut emoji, it definitely looks like discussions for Anyone but You 2 are in the works, even if the actors aren’t formally saying it at this point in time. Check out his tongue-in-cheek comment below:
Anyone but You
is a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s
Much Ado About Nothing
.
The one thing holding a potential sequel back would be Anyone But You‘s ending, which neatly tied up the conflict between Ben and Bea as they properly become a couple. However, given relationships often encounter their ups-and-downs, there is still plenty of ground to cover for the pair as they navigate their new partnership in their own ways. With the first movie also scoring mixed reviews from critics for its fairly straightforward narrative, a sequel could allow the creative team to improve on the hit original with a unique story.
