Aside from the poetry, there is a radiant aureate style encompassing the esteemed composer, songwriter, and pianist Randy Edelman. Randy invites us to embark on a surreal journey through a soaring, fantastical world of song and story in a potent display of imagination and the examination of destiny. In a world that defines creativity, his music has a profound impact on mortal emotions, thoughts, experiences and romance acting as a conduit to forces greater than the human mind. Experiencing the sublime can transform the soul….
Randy’s music mirrors the dancing of a crystal fire constantly shifting and changing and allying the exquisite patterns of a kaleidoscope as he shared the soundscape of his vast career with an anticipatory congregation at edgy venue Chelsea T&S in New York City on June 9, 2023. He emerged from behind the lush curtain, sat at the raven colored baby-grand piano, quite laid-back and unassuming, without prior introduction and then… BOOM….suddenly it was as if swan-fletched arrows pierced the perimeters of the hearts with each passing note….as the audience harnessed his musical elements and bent them to their will.
Randy has enriched the planet with over 100 film and television soundtracks “Last of the Mohicans”, “My Cousin Vinny”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “Ghostbusters ll”, “The Bruce Lee Story”, “Billy Madison”, “Dragonheart”, the theme from the hit series “MacGyver” and a cavalcade of others… The multi-award-winning composer performs a procession of them in a series of astonishing medleys paying tribute to both the comical and serious.
During the pop culture revolution in the 70’s and 80’s Randy celebrated his own hit sensations on the iconic BBC charting show “Top of the Pops” including his “Uptown, Uptempo Woman”, and “Concrete and Clay.” He then enjoyed astounding success when his hits were covered by artists including Barry Manilow (A Weekend In New England), Patti LaBelle (Isn’t it a Shame), The Carpenters (You), and the pageant of others, including Nelly, Olivia, Newton-John, Dionne Warwick, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Willy Nelson, and even Bing Crosby.
As an animated storyteller in the midst of each song, Randy inserts an insanely humorous or a paralyzing emotional tale referencing a portion of his behind the stage antics. His tales evoke a montage of reactions: joy, empathy, remorse, passion, and romance that segue into even deeper sentiments as the music and the sensitive lyrics unfurl. The same feeling that breaks your heart can be the very one that heals it…..
At present alongside Randy’s live performances in both New York and London he is feverishly in the process of writing a new album which is set to be called “Cannot Kill Me By Any Conventional Means” set to be released early next year. He is also writing the film scores for the new Ghostbusters ll documentary and the new Cuba Gooding Jr. holiday movie “Athena Saves Christmas” as well as several other motion picture soundtracks soon to be released…a lot of pressure you might think…. but it takes a lot of pressure to create a Diamond.
Randy Edelman’s past is not just a series of enactments carved in stone but rather a prism of events that when viewed through different lenses can color and change how he inspires his own present and future and that of those whosen lives his music has touched.
