Jennie Garth broke her silence on Tori Spelling‘s unexpected exit from their Beverly Hills, 90210 rewatch podcast.
Earlier this week, Spelling — who played Donna Martin in the ’90s teen drama series — announced in an Instagram Live that she would not return to co-host 9021OMG, per Entertainment Weekly. The podcast launched in 2020, and she and Garth only had two more seasons left to recap.
In the livestream with fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Brian Austin Green, Spelling, 53, explained that she wanted to pursue other projects. She also encouraged followers to continue listening to the podcast.
Garth, 54 — who played Kelly Taylor in the series — and podcast producer/fellow co-host Amy Sugarman publicly responded to Spelling’s sudden podcast exit during the Friday, July 31 episode of 9021OMG.
“About two weeks ago, she made the decision — which I’m sure was a very tough decision for her — but she let us know about two weeks ago that she had decided she wasn’t going to continue with the podcast,” Sugarman explained. “This was 100 percent her decision. And, look, two things can be true. We can be really bummed, disappointed that she’s not going to do Seasons 9 and 10 with us, with you, while still wanting her to be happy and to be excited for her about the things she is working on and does want to do.”
To that, Garth admitted, “I’m sad that she’s not finishing this out with us. We started this together, and I’m sad about that, if I’m being honest, which, I always am.”
She continued, “But I’m also A), really excited for the podcast to come into 9 and 10 because I know we have a lot of great stuff in store… And also B), I’m really happy for her. I’m really excited for her to choose herself.”
Beverly Hills, 90210 aired for 10 seasons from 1990 to 2000. In addition to Garth, Spelling, and Green, the series starred Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Luke Perry, Ian Ziering, Joe E. Tata, Gabrielle Carteris, Carol Potter, James Eckhouse, and Tiffani Thiessen, among others.
