When TCA visited the set this week, the exec producers shared that they are currently penning the series finale — and sitcom titan Chuck Lorre, for one, asserted, “It’s as exciting, in its own way, as the finale of The Big Bang Theory.” And leading right up to that grand finale, “the last three episodes are gigantic,” EP Steve Molaro avowed.
Will Young Sheldon’s Finale Connect To The Big Bang Theory?
When The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, it aired back-to-back with the Young Sheldon season 2 finale, which featured a creative tribute to its parent series. Decades before adult Sheldon won the Nobel Prize in Physics, he was sitting alone in his Texas home garage, listening to the announcement of winners on his own. The prequel then panned to every single young member of the Pasadena gang, revealing what they were doing at that point. It was a great way to tie the shows together, so there’s an expectation that the Young Sheldon series finale will do something similar.
There are several ways that the spinoff can honor its parent series. Firstly, it can end with a flashforward, revealing the reason why adult Sheldon has been narrative his childhood. This could also serve as a The Big Bang Theory reunion, as it could feature the Pasadena gang still hanging out together. Secondly, Young Sheldon could wrap up with Sheldon in Caltech, particularly the cafeteria, where he would be spending many years with his friends. It could also be a great way to honor George, who was with him the first time he set foot in the prestigious academic institution.
Young Sheldon Just Turned An Essential Sheldon & Penny TBBT Scene Into A Plot Hole
Young Sheldon season 7 premiere features a storyline that directly contradicts an essential Sheldon and Penny scene in The Big Bang Theory.
Ultimately, Lorre, Molaro, and their team have their work cut out for them in terms of sending off the Coopers. Not only do they honor its own storytelling, but the Young Sheldon series finale also needs to honor The Big Bang Theory. That being said, considering how great the prequel’s writing has been in the last couple of seasons, there’s confidence that they can actually deliver a great swan song for Sheldon and his family.
