With Wednesday season 2 on the way, Wednesday actor Joy Sunday recently unveiled her own personal hopes for the show’s second season, which if they were to happen, would definitely make the series that much better. Wednesday is a dark comedy mystery series based on the iconic fictional character Wednesday Addams and The Addams Family. The show follows a teenage Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, as she attends a new school called Nevermore Academy, wherein the students are not quite normal, and a massive mystery is afoot that Wednesday is intent on solving.
As of now, it is confirmed that Wednesday season 2 is happening, but not what it will be about. At the end of Wednesday season 1, Wednesday successfully defeated Joseph Crackstone and Marilyn Thornhill, however, on her way home for winter break, she receives a threatening message on her new cellphone, implying that yet another dangerous mystery will be waiting for her when she returns. Clearly, Wednesday season 2 will have to follow up on this newfound conflict, however, there are other aspects of the show that could be explored as well, including Wednesday’s friendships.
Joy Sunday Wants More Of Bianca & Wednesday In Season 2
One friendship that needs more exploration in Wednesday is that of Wednesday and Bianca. Apparently, Bianca’s actor agrees. Joy Sunday, who portrays Bianca Barclay in Wednesday, recently told Entertainment Weekly that she had hopes that Wednesday and Bianca’s relationship would develop in Wednesday season 2. In particular, she said, “I think it’s so natural for her and Wednesday to have a little bit of competition. I’m really excited to see their friendship bloom alongside that.” In Wednesday season 1, Bianca and Wednesday put some of their initial tension aside to become something resembling friends, or at least, not enemies.
Sunday’s hopes for Bianca and Wednesday are not entirely out of left field either. As much as Wednesday is about solving mysteries and letting Wednesday be the dark and strange individual that she is, much of the show is also about her personal growth. Take for example her relationship with Enid. Although Enid proved to be Wednesday’s exact opposite in season 1, the girls ended up becoming quite close, learning to overcome their differences and become true friends. This change proved that Wednesday can be unique, while also giving others a chance. Her relationship with Bianca could accomplish something similar.
Wednesday season 2 has no officially release date, however, it can be estimated that the second season will come out around mid-2025.
The Wednesday Star’s Hopes Indicate The Best Path Forward For The Show
Ultimately, Joy Sunday’s wishes are not only interesting from a story perspective, but may also be the best way forward for the series. Although it is important to keep up the intrigue and horror of Wednesday, the titular character’s relationships are just as vital. If Wednesday does not grow over the course of the season, then there is little point in following her. Therefore, prioritizing her relationship with Bianca is the right move to make. By doing this, audiences will be able to see Wednesday make even more important interpersonal changes that will help her in the long run.
Furthermore, by giving Bianca and Wednesday’s relationship a spotlight, Wednesday season 2 could also explore Bianca’s character a bit further. In season 1, Bianca offers hints of a very interesting plot, as her mother tries to convince her to join what seems to be a cult. Additonally, Wednesday could benefit from exploring more of the Nevermore students in general. While Wednesday is plenty intriguing all on her own, the show establishes such an interesting world as Nevermore, and it would be a shame to let the unique students become background pieces when they could add so much more.
How Wednesday Can Introduce More Bianca (And Other Nevermore Students) In Season 2
In Wednesday season 2, it will be vital to focus on exploring the characters that have already been established rather than introducing more new characters. So, instead of bringing in too many new Wednesday cast members, the show should delve more deeply into characters audiences already know such as Bianca, Xavier, Enid, and others. When it comes to specifics, Bianca’s cult plot line definitely needs to be explored. Additionally, Xavier’s power is quite interesting, and his father could be an interesting character, while Enid could have an entirely new storyline now that she has unlocked her werewolf powers.
In the end, Wednesday season 2 could go in many directions, but Wednesday’s social life is just as important as her detective skills. In this way, Joy Sunday’s hopes of seeing more Bianca and Wednesday are a strong choice for the narrative. If Wednesday season 2 prioritizes storylines like these, then the series will be better for it. In order to stay invested, audiences need to see Wednesday grow and change.
