Dwayne Johnson has teased a Black Adam vs. Superman fight once again, and the possibility of that happening could see the DCEU change forever.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been promoting his DC project Black Adam for some time, but his Superman teases could actually deliver on his biggest promise for the movie. Audiences that have been following the production of the film know that Johnson has referred to the superhero movie as one that will change the DCEU and that “the hierarchy of power [in the DCEU] is about to change“. This promise has actually almost reached the point of parody as a result of endless repetition, and it still isn’t entirely known how exactly the film will affect the future of DC’s films. However, despite all this, an actual encounter with Superman could live up to what Johnson is preaching.
Black Adam is being approached as a character that is virtually unstoppable. Conversely, Superman is widely recognized as one of the strongest beings in existence, making a match-up all the more tantalizing (and simultaneously revealing an unfortunate truth about the DCEU’s Superman situation). However, since the Man of Steel hasn’t been seen since his headless cameo in 2019’s Shazam!, it’s unknown where or what his current status is. Henry Cavill hasn’t appeared as Superman for five years following the events of Joss Whedon’s Justice League. A potential return in Black Adam coupled with a future fight tease could push both characters to their limits and redefine the power structures in the DCEU. The franchise has already established powerful characters like Wonder Woman, but many other characters don’t appear to be on a similar power level, suggesting a fight between Superman and Black Adam can finally define how powerful certain DC characters should be. Beyond power levels, Black Adam can also set up multiple crossovers involving characters like Shazam and Superman. As such, Black Adam is not just the ideal vehicle for Dwayne Johnson’s long-awaited promise, but it is also the ideal cornerstone for Superman’s DCEU return.
Is Black Adam More Powerful Than Superman? Who Would Win A Fight
Superman is one of the strongest characters in DC Comics and is sometimes regarded as overpowered. Setting up a fight between him and Black Adam could prove to be one of the most epic superhero battles in cinematic history. With both characters being seemingly unstoppable, it’s understandable how it could be challenging to debate who would win in a fight. Dwayne Johnson believes that Black Adam is just as powerful as Superman, yet both characters do have their vulnerabilities. Superman’s main and best-known weakness is Kryptonite while Black Adam has a magical susceptibility. Superman has been able to defeat Black Adam in the comics even though the latter is deemed to be more dangerous, suggesting that he could also triumph in the DCEU. Even though The Rock’s Superman hype could yet be a failure, there’s no doubt that a cinematic match-up between the pair is a prospect that understandably thrills many fans.
How Black Adam vs. Superman Can Change The DCEU’s Future
A Black Adam vs. Superman fight in Black Adam isn’t likely to be seen even if Henry Cavill does return. Dwayne Johnson said recently he plans to make a movie focused on a fight between the two characters, which implies such a moment would be too significant to be tacked onto Black Adam’s solo film. Cavill’s potential return could, however, bring the story back to the DCEU’s roots and set up a long-awaited Man of Steel sequel, but it could also tie into Ben Affleck’s upcoming Batman appearances in films like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash should Affleck return for projects beyond that. As such, teasing the conflict – even if it isn’t imminent – could yet influence multiple future DCEU properties.
DC is in dire need of consistency, and if Black Adam can better set up future DCEU projects, then the franchise might finally get back on track and focus on well-written interconnecting stories. Black Adam vs. Superman could even end up being a better version of Batman v Superman. Dwayne Johnson has already kept his promise to change the DCEU but now has to show audiences how the hierarchy of power really has altered as well.
