Survivor 46 episode 1 welcomed a group of new castaways into the game and saw the first challenges, as well as the first elimination at tribal council. With a group of 18 new castaways, the season opened with a strong premiere that explored the dynamics of each tribe while showing off their competitive abilities. With Jeff Probst giving the castaways a talking to in the first moments of the season, the Survivor 46 cast knew that this was going to be an experience like no other. The competitors were quick to get started, as their opening competition started nearly immediately.
After decades of Survivor seasons, many of the castaways appearing on Survivor 46 have been fans of the show since its very beginning. Having studied the strategies of other players, the competitors were ready as they rode into their first challenge together, and quickly began playing the game once they were back at their camps. Though one tribe emerged victorious throughout the episode, things were intense for all three tribes as they worked through forming alliances and deciding who they could or couldn’t trust. As Survivor 46’s premiere continued, it became clear that there were weak links in the game.

The Survivors Arrived And Went Straight Into A Challenge
The Diverse Tribes Were Excited To Begin
The three separate tribes, Nami, Siga, and Yanu, all arrived at the main beach to meet Jeff and get the game underway. Interacting on their separate boats, the tribes were beginning to feel some camaraderie as they made their way to the starting line of the series. Met by Jeff, the cast was expecting an uplifting speech, but were met with something somewhat different. Giving the castaways a dose of reality, Jeff explained that the amount of false confidence he saw in the group was astounding to see. While it may not have been encouraging, the castaways were still ready.
The Nami Tribe Won Their Tribe Supplies
The Tribe Took First Place In The Opening Competition
In the opening competition, the castaways had to maneuver through an obstacle course in pairs to retrieve puzzle pieces, then put together their puzzle as a team. The first team to put their puzzle together and retrieve a piece of flint from a hanging pole would be crowned the winners. Moving quickly, the Nami tribe was able to work through the course and the puzzle before taking the win. Following, the Siga tribe took second place, giving them the advantage to choose the second challenge they’d compete in, sweaty or savvy. Siga chose savvy, leaving Yanu with the sweaty task.
The Siga Tribe And The Yanu Tribe Went Head To Head
One Of The Tribes Got To Compete For Supplies
The Siga tribe and the Yanu tribe were taken to their second challenges, where they were instructed to choose two players from each team to compete for everyone. With very little time to decide, the Siga tribe took on the savvy task and left the Yanu tribe with the sweaty task. The Siga tribe decided on their task because they felt that they’d been able to come together and work on their puzzle rather quickly, meaning they would likely be able to do so again. Winning was the difference between having supplies and going without for the next couple days.
Q And Jelinksky Struggled With The Sweaty Task
The Rest Of The Yanu Tribe Bonded
Q Burdette and David Jelinsky were chosen as the pair from Yanu who would take on the sweaty task, which consisted of the men traveling from two large vases to the ocean with buckets to fill the vases up. Unfortunately, the buckets had holes in them, and the back and forth was tough for Q and Jelinsky, who ultimately quit with more than half their allotted time left. While the pair were struggling the rest of Yanu, including Bhanu Gopal, Jess Chong, Kensie Petty, and Tiffany Ervin, bonded at their campsite and waited for the results of the sweaty challenge.
Charlie And Ben Took On The Savvy Task
The Siga Tribe Formed Other Alliances
While Siga’s remaining members, Jem Hussain-Adams, Maria Shrime Gonzalez, Tim Spicer, and Moriah Gaynor, spent time getting to know one another, Charlie Davis and Ben Katzman did their best to work on the savvy task. The challenge was comprised of multiple puzzles which led to a combination lock. Charlie and Ben had hours to try and figure out what to do with the lock, but they did not accomplish the task. The tribe wound up going without their supplies, making things difficult for them as they worked on getting fire and shelter together for their first days on the island.
The Tribes All Built Alliances
Kenzie Made Different Alliances In The Yanu Tribe
After the tasks were finished without success, the tribes took to their beaches to get to know each other and strategize. The members of the Nami tribe, Hunter McKnight, Liz Wilcox, Randen Montalvo, Soda Thompson, Tevin Davis, and Venus Vafa, were all getting along quickly, but Randen felt threatened by Venus while Hunter was uncertain of Soda. At Siga, the group split by gender, both trying to pull Charlie onto their side. Meanwhile, Yanu was meshing well as a tribe aside from Jess, who was struggling to be social or get any sort of rest without the comforts of home.
Jelinsky, Tevin, & Maria Were All Chosen For A Journey
The Journey Included A Strategy Game
The tribes had to choose one person to go on a journey during their second day on the island. Yanu chose Jelinsky, who felt confident he would be good with the game, while Siga and Nami chose Maria and Tevin, respectively. The trio was taken to a beach where they had to play a game of strategy, drawing a card and trying to convince the torch cardholder they were holding the vote card. While Jelinsky, who had the skull, tried to convince Maria at first, he threw in the towel quickly and forfeited his vote at the upcoming tribal council.
The Tribes Competed In The First Immunity Challenge
A Relay Race and Puzzle Were Included
The tribes all headed to the immunity challenge on day 3, hopeful they’d be one of the two tribes to win immunity in the game. The challenge consisted of a relay race, where they would have to work together to move a 500-pound gecko through a series of obstacles before two tribe members would have to complete a puzzle. Nami, who already won the opening challenge, was the fastest group and wound up winning the immunity challenge easily while the other two tribes struggled for second place. Siga, who communicated through their puzzle, ended up taking the win over Yanu.
The Yanu Tribe Lost and Headed To Tribal Council
Jelinsky & Jess Were Worried They’d Be Targeted
After losing the immunity challenge, Yanu headed back to their camp and discussed the possibilities of what could happen at tribal council. While the rest of the group debated through things, Jess shared she wasn’t feeling confident in her performance so far. Jelinky feigned some nerves, but shared with the cameras that he felt confident in the fact that he’d be staying. The rest of Yanu were split on what they wanted to do, knowing that Jelinsky’s performance had been poor, but his potential was likely higher than Jess’s in the game overall.
Jelinksy Was The First Person Voted Out Of Survivor 46
Yanu Had To Vote Out One Of Their Own
At tribal council, the Yanu tribe had a difficult conversation with Jeff about their performance in the first few competitions. Q shared that he was unhappy with the fact that Jelinsky had chosen to quit the sweaty task while they still had so much time left, and the rest of the tribe shared that they didn’t appreciate that Jelinsky had given up his vote during the journey. While they all felt Jess had her faults, the tribe voted unanimously for Jelinsky to be the first castaway eliminated from Survivor 46.
