Warning: Spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #62A Sonic the Hedgehog villain who once betrayed and murdered his teammates is now in a position that will allow him to more readily finish off his only remaining foe, Whisper the Wolf. While a part of a team known as the Diamond Cutters, the assassin Mimic carried out a deadly attack that left nearly the entire team dead. This event completely traumatized Whisper to the point that her entire personality changed as a result. Now, Mimic’s current efforts also have the potential to destroy Sonic’s home and headquarters from within.
In Sonic the Hedgehog #62 by writer Ian Flynn, artist Thomas Rothlisberger, colorist Leonardo Ito and letterer Shawn Lee, another villain named Clutch gives Mimic the opportunity to infiltrate Sonic’s Restoration. The Restoration has been preventing Clutch from gaining Egg Tech while turning a profit. Mimic initially turns down the offer, but eventually agrees to participate once Clutch informs him that Whisper and Tangle are part of the Restoration. Whisper’s nemesis also learns that the duo are part of a new vanguard called the Diamond Cutters.
Mimic Once Forced Whisper To Flee
Mimic has a bone to pick with Tangle in addition to Whisper because the two of them were responsible for throwing him in jail in the Tangle & Whisper four-issue miniseries. That prison sentence was cut short when Mimic escaped in another miniseries called Bad Guys. Regardless, Mimic has had his sights set on Whisper for much longer since he still wants to finish the job he started when he killed everyone on their team except Whisper. It’s an extra bonus that Tangle and Whisper’s new group is also called the Diamond Cutters. To Mimic, killing them would be like murdering the original Diamond Cutters all over again.
Despite Tangle playing a role in Mimic’s capture, Whisper was so worried about his obsession with killing her that she left the Restoration to protect her new friends. However, even though Whisper left the Restoration for their own protection, she was willing to rejoin later. This is what has given Mimic a reason to participate in Clutch’s mission, thus confirming Whisper’s greatest fear. And it’s more likely than not that Mimic will succeed in this endeavor because he can transform and has already infiltrated the Restoration disguised as a new member.
Whisper Suffers From Some Major PTSD Because of Mimic
Again, Mimic does want revenge on Tangle as well as Whisper for imprisoning him, but fans will likely be more invested in how Whisper and her Wisps will react rather than Tangle. Because Mimic was a close friend, Whisper now understandably suffers from severe trust issues. This has naturally complicated her ability to make and keep friends, especially those who are closer to Whisper like Tangle. It’s undoubtedly what fueled Whisper’s especially emotional reaction when her Wisps were stolen from her in a separate battle. These Wisps are the only other survivors of that first team, and losing them for good would definitely devastate the poor wolf. It’s the utter tragedy of Whisper’s past that makes it so compelling that Sonic the Hedgehog‘s base of operations has already been infiltrated from within.
