The landmark 150th issue of Batman features not only legendary DC artist and Milestone Media cofounder Denys Cowan joining writer Chip Zdarsky and series artist Jorge Jiménez on the main story, but Zdarsky and artist Mike Hawthorne reuniting (“The Bat-Man of Gotham”) for an Absolute Power tie-in story featuring Batman and Catwoman planning the most dangerous heist of their lives. The target: Amanda Waller! |
Included in this issue is a special treat for fans of the Gotham City Sirens: a variant cover by Mattia De Iulis showcasing Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy ominously towering over Batman, hinting at a possible reunion of the three formidable women.
It’s the PERFECT Time For the Gotham City Sirens to Return to Comics
The potential for this reunion and its duration remains uncertain, much like the likelihood of it occurring at all. Nevertheless, whether it manifests as a fleeting encounter or hints at the inception of a new Gotham City Sirens comic series, the timing couldn’t be more opportune. Presently, all three Sirens boast their own solo runs, demonstrating their individual crowd-drawing power. However, as summer approaches alongside a major DC event, fans may witness the conclusion of some or all of these solo series. Therefore, if any or all of their individual series are winding down, there’s no better moment to reunite the Sirens.
Poison Ivy, in particular, seems poised to conclude her narrative after a robust two-year journey. The latest batch of solicitations for July 2024 hinted at an impending storyline closure for the Gotham Siren, prefacing its synopsis with the ominous phrase: “The Death of Pamela Isley.” While DC is unlikely to kill off Ivy permanently, it does suggest a definite endpoint. Similarly, Catwoman’s Nine Lives storyline appears to be nearing its conclusion by July. Thus, another potential conclusion looms, marking an opportune moment for the Sirens to reunite for a new Gotham City Sirens venture.
A New Gotham City Sirens Series Would Let Harley, Selina, and Ivy Return to Their Roots
It’s been over a decade since the Sirens last headlined their own comic series, making it long overdue for all three women to reunite once again. A Gotham City Sirens comic series would offer a chance for a reunion and an opportunity for the characters to return to their roots. Over the years, their individual storylines have become increasingly convoluted; Selina’s revelation of having nine lives, Harley’s involvement in cross-dimensional murder, and Ivy’s connection to a deadly outbreak have all added layers of complexity. Therefore, a Gotham City Sirens run would provide a welcome fresh start for Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman.
Batman #150 will be released on July 3, 2024, from DC Comics!
Poison Ivy
Inducted into Batman’s rogues gallery in the 1960s, Poison Ivy is a metahuman who terrorizes Gotham with her poisonous touch and control over plant life. A misanthropic eco-terrorist, Poison Ivy is also depicted as an anti-hero, using her powers in attempts to regrow the environment in the wake of pollution and deforestation. Together with her lover Harley Quinn, the two are always ready to wreak havoc in Gotham.
Catwoman
A simultaneous adversary and love interest to Batman, the acrobatic burglar Catwoman first appeared in DC comics in 1940. Since then, different iterations have shown the character as a villain or an anti-hero. Though Selina Kyle is the best-known Catwoman, other in-universe characters have taken on the moniker, namely, Holly Robinson and Eiko Hasigawa. However, Selina is the one to most commonly appear in movies, usually in a love-hate, chess match dynamic with the Dark Knight.
