Fire Country co-creator and star Max Thieriot teases a “darker” version of Bode in season 2, exploring how prison changes him. The series follows Bode volunteering as a firefighter in California, doing so in hopes of shortening his prison sentence. However, the end of season 1 saw him lie during his parole hearing, winding up back in jail to protect his friend Freddy from a drug investigation.
Speaking with TV Insider, Thieriot revealed what can be expected from Bode in Fire Country season 2 following a six-month time jump. The actor revealed his character will be “darker” than before, showcasing a form of survival instinct while in jail. Check out what Thieriot had to say below:
It’s definitely changed him. I think we get to see more of that prison Bode that we didn’t really get to experience. I think for Bode, obviously, it’s hard to go from being in to then pseudo being out, and then have to go back in. So it’s that weird adjustment. And so we get to see a little bit of that darker side, a little bit of that edge, and what…having to survive, that prison instinct, looks like.
What Will Happen To Bode In Fire Country Season 2?
Fire Country season 1’s twist ending put the show’s main character at his lowest point, his opportunity at Three Rock now dashed because of his decision. A teaser for season 2 hints that he will be getting into prison brawls, possibly changing for good if his situation worsens. Because of this, the version of the show’s protagonist that will show up in the upcoming episodes may not be so recognizable.
Given the premise of the series, though, it’s unlikely that Bode will be imprisoned for the entirety of season 2. While it will take some time for him to redeem himself in the eyes of certain characters, him rejoining his firefighting team seems like a guarantee. However, the series plans on introducing a new character in the form of Diego, a friendly firefighter helping Gabriela with her paramedic certification. His interactions with her could spell doom for her and Bode, whose decision already formed a rift between them.
Alongside Diego’s introduction, Fire Country is reportedly getting a spinoff starring Morena Baccarin (Deadpool), whose character will be introduced in season 2. Since she’ll be playing a Sheriff’s deputy, it’s possible her storyline will coincide with Bode’s, possibly tying into how he’s able to become a firefighter again. With multiple moving parts surrounding the show’s main character, his story could go in any number of directions when the series returns.
Fire Country season 2 begins on CBS on February 16, 2024.
