Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. Here are the biggest headlines from last week.

The Time Traveler’s Wife is Getting a Dystopian Sequel

The title of this ABC article says Audrey Niffenegger is releasing a “long-awaited” sequel to The Time Traveler’s Wife, but most readers seem surprised that this 23-year-old novel had a sequel planned at all. It’s called Life Out of Order and follows Alba DeTamble, the daughter of Henry DeTamble, who also has “Chrono-Displacement Disorder.” Niffenegger says it’s set in a dystopian world that seemed far from our own when she started writing it in 2012, but looks much more familiar today. Life Out of Order comes out October 27th.

Check Out the First Full Trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2

Speaking of sequels, the first full-length trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has dropped! The first movie came out in 2006 and was based on the 2003 novel The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. (2003 is really making a comeback this year.) The trailer shows Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reprise their roles as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel. When Andy makes her triumphant return to Runway Magazine, Miranda claims to not remember her.

    2026 Libby Book Award Finalists

The finalists for the Libby Book Award, which honors the best books of the previous calendar year as selected by librarians, have been announced. We’ve got a whopping 20 categories for the awards along with a brand new Reader’s Choice award, and there are two finalists for each category. Two of 2025’s big books made the Adult Fiction finalist list: Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Buckeye by Patrick Ryan. In Adult Nonfiction, we’ve got two more by-now-familiar titles: A Flower Traveled in My Blood by Haley Cohen Gilliland and A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst. My kingdom for even one BIPOC-authored book in the two major categories and the Reader’s Choice award, but you will find more diversity across the remaining categories. Alchemised by SenLin Yu made it into more than one category, Stephen Graham Jones’ excellent The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is a finalist competing with Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s The Bewitching in the Horror category, and All the Blues in the Sky by Renée Watson is up against Scarlet Morning, Book 1 by ND Stevenson in Middle Grade. It’s delightfully cheeky that Sherry Thomas’s The Librarians placed in Mystery. I see you, librarians.

The Bookshop.org Partnerships Everyone’s Talking About

Bookshop.org, the bookselling platform designed to benefit independent bookstores, has made headlines this week with a couple of partnerships that are poised to make it easier to buy books from indies. A partnership between Bookshop.org and Draft2Digital, a digital publishing and distribution platform for independent authors and publishers, will allow readers to buy self-published ebooks from independent booksellers, while an affiliate partnership with Spotify will allow Spotify Premium users to purchase physical books through Bookshop.org. Spotify is simultaneously introducing a Page Match feature (which Android Authority caught on to late last month, ahead of Spotify’s announcement) that will make it easier to sync your reading if you’re switching between audiobook, physical book, and/or ebook. This is good news for readers looking for more ways to support independent bookstores and for Bookshop.org, which will gain more exposure through Spotify and an expanded catalog through Draft2Digital.
