‘Southern Charm’s Naomie Olindo Appears on Sean and Rachel Duffy’s Reality Show

    What To Know

    • Southern Charm star Naomie Olindo made a cameo on Rachel and Sean Duffy’s The Great American Road Trip show.
    • Some fans were puzzled by the apparent sponsored content moment that seemed out of place with the rest of the episode.

Sean Duffy and Rachel Campos-Duffy are documenting their travels across the country with their nine children on The Great American Road Trip, and the fourth episode included a reality television crossover with Southern Charm alum Naomie Olindo.

The Duffys took Charleston by storm in the episode, and Olindo spent time with the family at Saltwater Cowboys. “Naomie is an old friend of mine, and we decided to meet up at her family’s restaurant, really close to where we ended up docking,” Rachel explained. “She got to meet the family for the first time.”

Rachel told Naomie that the family has been “blown away” by Charleston, which prompted Naomie to speak about tourism in her city. The talk took a turn to a conversation about credit card points that seemed quite forced and out of place.

“Tourism here is massive,” Naomie said. “It’s, like, the primary industry. People that travel here make locally-owned restaurants like this go round. I’m getting married in July. I’m a frugal person. I want to be smart with my money, planning a wedding and honeymoon can get so expensive. We booked our entire honeymoon with points.”

After Rachel and Sean’s daughter, Evita, said she was experiencing the same, Olindo continued, “People can come here on points, and the more they go out to eat, they shop, where they stay, they use their cards, and they’re still earning points while they’re staying here. It might be girl math, but it makes sense.”

The scene essentially seemed like an advertisement for credit card points, and fans were puzzled. “It’s like an infomercial,” one person commented on a clip of the scene posted to Instagram. Another person said, “All she did was come on to do an awkward ad from a sponsor. This entire show is a conflict of interest. It’s absurd.”
