Scott Bakula Eyeing CBS Return 5 Years After ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Cancellation

    What To Know

    • Scott Bakula is set to return to CBS as the star and executive producer of a new procedural drama.
    • It’s been five years after the cancellation of NCIS: New Orleans.

NCIS: Origins gave us back Pride last season, albeit a younger version (played by Shea Buckner), but the man who originated the character on the New Orleans spinoff, Scott Bakula, will be back on CBS and in a procedural, five years after his series was canceled.

There’s a new drama in the works at CBS with Bakula as its star and an executive producer, Deadline reports. It will come from Dean Devlin‘s Electric Entertainment and be written and executive produced by Michael Sussman; it would be a reunion for Bakula, since he and Sussman worked on Star Trek: Enterprise together.

There aren’t any details yet about show or who Bakula will be playing beyond the fact that he’s said to be a “leap” from Pride. We’ll have to wait and see if the show does make it past the development stage.

Bakula starred as Dwayne Pride for all seven seasons of NCIS: New Orleans, which ended in 2021. The character was based on a retired naval investigator from New Orleans, D’Wayne Swear, who was also a consultant on the series.

Pride was based on a real NOLA lawman, retired naval investigator D’Wayne Swear, who served as a series consultant. “He was a great guy, and when he sadly passed [in 2018], it broke everybody’s heart and broke the back of the show,” Bakula told TV Insider in 2021.

“[The character of] Pride was bighearted, open, available, susceptible to being misled, making mistakes and going too far, going the extra mile, tracking people down. It gave me a lot of juicy stuff to do,” he added.

Will this new character being a “leap” from Pride mean he’s nothing like that, or will he still have some of those same qualities? We’ll have to wait and see.
