Sandra Bullock Welcomed Dakota Johnson to the ‘Razzie Club’

After receiving her first Razzie Award for worst actress for Madame Web, Dakota Johnson learned she’s actually part of a special club now.

The Materialists actress revealed during a recent appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast that Sandra Bullock reached out to her to welcome her to the “Razzie Club.”

“Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note, being like, ‘I heard you are in the Razzie Club and we should have brunch. We should have like a monthly brunch,’” Johnson said. “But I freaked out getting this message from her because she’s so iconic to me, as a movie star. I was like, ‘Oh my god, it was just crazy.’”

While Johnson won her first Razzie last year, Bullock won a Razzie in 2010 for worst actress for her role in All About Steve, as well as worst couple with her co-star Bradley Cooper. That same year, she also won an Oscar for best actress for The Blind Side.

Poehler also asked Johnson how she navigates movie flops, such as Madame Web, while also trying to build a lasting acting career.

“We don’t have control over how something turns out anymore, no one does, like very few directors or actors. Tom Cruise maybe does,” the Fifty Shades of Grey star explained. “But I’ve signed on to a movie that, by the end of shooting it, is a completely different script than what I attached to, and that is a crazy journey to go on as an artist. Because you’re like, ‘OK, I’m doing something with my actual body and my actual mind and my heart and my emotions,’ and it’s just being taken and fucked with, but you can’t do anything about it. Like, what am I going to do, fucking cry about Madame Web? No. I’m gonna laugh.”

The Saturday Night Live alum proceeded to tell Johnson that she should have gone to the Razzies and “just gave an epic speech and then just spiked the award.” The actress informed Poehler that they don’t have an in-person ceremony, though she “wished” they did.

“Sandra Bullock said she asked for the [Razzie] award and picked it up, and then they called her and asked her to give it back because they only had one,” Johnson added with a laugh, before Poehler said she would “love to have the Razzie committee show themselves.”
