Regal Cinemas’ latest collectible popcorn bucket doesn’t suck.
The theater chain has revealed a Nosferatu popcorn sarcophagus (below) for the upcoming Robert Eggers horror film.
The ornate box will be priced at $30.99 with a large popcorn — or $25.99 for those who just want to sit in a theater watching a movie with an empty sarcophagus on their lap.
The Nosferatu box will be on sale one week in advance (Wednesday, Dec. 18) of the film’s official release date of Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
(By the way, in case you’re wondering what the difference is between a coffin and a sarcophagus, the former is any old burial box, while the latter is generally made of stone, adorned with carvings or inscriptions and often stored above ground — like a giant enclosed tombstone, basically.)
Here’s a look at the box without the lighting effects:
The sarcophagus marks the latest viral popcorn collectible that theater chains have created to help boost revenue, with the infamous Dune popcorn bucket being the most famous and the Deadpool & Wolverine bucket being the most naughty. The trend’s origins are credited to AMC Theatres and Disney teaming in 2019 to make an R2-D2 popcorn and drink holder for the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that sold out at $49.99 each.
Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 German classic, which was based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe.
Regal Cinemas sees your collectible popcorn buckets and raises them with a collectible popcorn sarcophagus.
