What To Know

- Live With Kelly and Mark guest host Jenna Dewan shared her similar regrettable decision.
- Ripa has been absent from Live since last week as she recovers from gum graft surgery.
What started as a meaningful way to commemorate a special occasion turned into something Mark Consuelos regretted.
While chatting with guest host Jenna Dewan on the Tuesday, July 4, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Consuelos brought up the topic of tattoo tourism, in which people commemorate trips or experiences by getting a tattoo. “When we got married in Vegas, we eloped, and we went straight to a tattoo parlor,” Consuelos revealed. “I don’t know whose idea that was, but we went straight to get tattoos, and it was a horrible idea.”
Consuelos and Kelly Ripa met as costars on the soap opera All My Children in 1995. The following year, the couple tied the knot in Sin City. The duo went on to welcome three children: Michael, Lola, and Joaquin.
“What did you get?” Dewan asked. Motioning to his upper right arm, Consuelos replied, “Oh, my gosh. It’s so embarrassing. I’ve since had it covered up with something different here, but I got the tragedy/comedy actors [masks], the thing. Awful. The smiley face and the angry face. I’m like, oh, my god. It’s so cringey just to think of it.” (Consuelos didn’t share what tattoo Ripa got at the timnovoe.)
Dewan defended Consuelos’ tattoo decision, stating, “In our younger years, you go for the more obvious choice.” The Rookie star shared that she also got two tattoos on trips, including getting angel wings on her back while working as a dancer on a Janet Jackson tour.

“I’m also in the process of removing a tattoo, which is, hands down, the most painful thing I’ve ever [experienced],” Dewan noted, though she didn’t specify which of her tattoos she’s removing.
Dewan says she is using her own experience to give helpful advice to her kids. “I always say to [my daughter] Everly, ‘When you think about wanting a tattoo, think fast-forward to removing it.’ I think you almost need to try what it feels like first before you get a tattoo so you know, because it hurts.” (Dewan shares her eldest daughter, Everly, with her ex-husband, Channing Tatum, and kids Callum and Rhiannon with her fiancé, Steve Kazee.)
Dewan is the latest celebrity to fill in for Ripa on Live. The co-host has been absent from the show since last week, as she is currently recovering from a gum graft surgery. Last week’s guest hosts included Kevin Jonas, Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon, and Scott Foley. Consuelos kicked off this week’s shows with guest host Sarah Chalke on Monday, July 3.
Consuelos has not revealed when Ripa will return to her role on Live, nor has Ripa shared any glimpses into her ongoing recovery via social media. “There’s a list of things that you’re not allowed to do — talking, she has to eat soft food, you can’t suck out of a straw,” Consuelos explained on the show’s July 27 episode. “You can’t examine it, which means pulling down the lip. And so, last night, she’s like, ‘Can you look?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not pulling your lip down.’”
He added, “It’s painful. But she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t really use the Novocain. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.”
