Jack Quaid Feels No Pain as Ass-Kicking Action Hero

Jack Quaid finds the rare genetic disorder that makes him impervious to physical pain becomes useful when he tries to save his girlfriend taken hostage in a bank robbery in the Novocaine trailer.

Suddenly, his affliction becomes a superpower as he turns into an ass-kicking action hero. Quaid plays Nate Caine, a mild-mannered everyman. Throughout the look at the film, he’s seen saying “It’s fine” when a knife is driven into his hand and feeling no pain when shards of glass are embedded in his knuckles, or when he grabs a gun from a hot deep fryer.

The actor, best known as Hughie Campbell Jr. in Prime Video’s hit series The Boys, stars opposite Amber Midthunder. She portrays the girl of his dreams, whom he must fight to rescue when she is kidnapped at the bank.

“Do you know what it’s like to meet your whole life to meet someone, someone who gives your life meaning? Would you wait around for someone else to save her? Or would you do it yourself?” Nate tells someone at the end of a phone line at one point in the trailer.

Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp and Jacob Batalon round out the ensemble cast.

Novocaine, from FilmNation Entertainment’s production startup Infrared, is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen from a script by Lars Jacobson. The indie was shot in the first quarter of 2024 in South Africa.

Paramount Pictures is set to release Novocaine in theaters from March 14, 2025.
