Frankie Muniz Crashes NASCAR Truck as Malcolm in the Middle Premieres

On Friday night, Frankie Muniz celebrated the premiere of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a revival series of the show that brought him fame. But hours after it debuted on Hulu and Disney+, Muniz was involved in a crash — in his Malcolm in the Middle decorated race truck.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer crashed his F-150 truck in a wreck with Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The incident took Muniz out of the race and damaged the themed vehicle. No serious injuries were reported.

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Muniz’s rep for comment and has not yet received a response.

After the race, the Agent Cody Banks actor spoke to reporters. “I actually thought we were running pretty good. I felt pretty quick,” he told Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass. “We were in the lucky dog position, so I was just trying to do some good lap times. I think there was like 10 to go on the stage.”

“I think [Reif] maybe got impatient, I don’t know. He was yelling at me in there, saying I’m a lapper, like I shouldn’t be racing. I’m in the lucky dog position. I’m fighting. I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do,” Muniz said. “I’m not going to back down on that. I haven’t seen a replay, but based on what I felt, I went to the middle of the track. I didn’t track all the way out to show that I was going to go back to the bottom.”

The original Malcolm in the Middle series ran for seven seasons on Fox from 2000 to 2006. Afterward, the 40-year-old stepped away from acting to pursue a career in racing.

He recently returned for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a four-episode revival that follows the family 20 years later. Linwood Boomer returned as showrunner. Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, Emy Coligado, Keeley Karsten, Vaughan Murrae, Kiana Madeira and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark round out the cast.

All four episodes are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
