John Bolton, who previously served as national security advisor to President Donald Trump, has agreed to plead guilty to retaining classified information after leaving office, MS NOW reported Thursday.
Bolton faces a sentence of up to 60 months in jail and a fine of $2.25 million as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors on the single count, according to MS NOW.
The classified information was contained in Bolton’s private diary, the outlet reported.
The only people who were potentially exposed to the secret information were his wife and daughter, according to a source cited by the outlet.
Bolton is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Md., on June 26. He is expected to enter his guilty plea in the case on that day.
