A cosplayer has taken to Instagram in order to give Star Wars fans all the more reason to want Asajj Ventress in the franchise’s live-action universe.
An Instagram cosplayer has given Star Wars fans a glimpse at what fan-favorite character Asajj Ventress might look like in live-action. First introduced in Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2003 miniseries version of The Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress has been an intimidating, dual-lightsaber-wielding antagonistic force in Star Wars media for 20 years now. After the character was cut from early drafts of 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones in order to create a more prominent role for Christopher Lee’s Count Dooku, Ventress was used as a Sith lord villain in both Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars and Dave Filoni’s longer-running Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
What makes Ventress such a memorable villain comes in both her appearance, grey-skinned, bald and wielding two red lightsabers, as well as her ruthless, take-no-prisoners attitude in combat with many heroic characters. Even though Ventress has met a demise numerous times, and in both animated iterations of Clone Wars, fans have clamored for more appearances by the character in further Star Wars lore. This has led to Ventress’ use in comic books, expanded universe novels and video games. But ultimately, with the Star Wars saga now existing in the form of numerous Disney+ live-action miniseries, fans are now waiting for the dual-bladed sith lord to make an appearance in the flesh.
One such fan, cosplayer Gracie The Cosplay Lass, has taken to Instagram in order to give fellow Star Wars diehards all the more reason to want Asajj Ventress in the franchise’s live-action universe. Gracie, photographed by Geo Leon, used a Sideshow Collectibles figure as the basis for a truly mesmerizing photo mimicking the Sith-lord in action with both lightsabers. The post’s motive seems to be to fire up fans wanting Ventress to be canonized as part of the next stage of the Star Wars saga. Recent television developments on Disney+ have brought Clone Wars’ Ashoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, into The Mandalorian, and have confirmed the survival of Boba Fett after being devoured by the Sarlacc, the latter of which was previously depicted in Expanded Universe content. More crucially, a recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett revealed the presence of Cad Bane, another popular character from Clone Wars, in this universe.
Dave Filoni’s desire to include Cad Bane in live-action Star Wars canon is probably the greatest indication that Asajj Ventress might be a possibility in further Disney+ miniseries’. And seeing as Bane’s Boba Fett appearance came after years of fans pleading for showrunners to make a space for him in further shows like The Mandalorian, perhaps the Star Wars team might already have a plan in mind for how to incorporate Ventress into the larger story of the franchise. So with even more Disney+ Star Wars series to come, taking place in numerous parts of the timeline, this Asajj Ventress cosplayer might be a look into a sooner future for the Star Wars saga than any of us are anticipating.
