DJ Screw’s Catalog Is Coming to Streaming for the First Time

DJ Screw’s catalog is finally making it to streaming platforms this month. Starting today with the digital release of the 56-minute DJ Screw Originals (Volume 1), the DJ Screw Estate will roll out the Houston legend’s classic mixtapes weekly through the end of June. Listen to DJ Screw Originals (Volume 1) below.

Up until now, the chopped and screwed pioneer’s music was only available via physical CDs and YouTube uploads from fans. “This is for the fans who’ve always known and for those discovering him now,” the DJ Screw Estate said in a statement to Complex. “From a local legend to a global icon, his catalogue will now be accessible everywhere keeping his legacy alive one stream at a time.”

DJ Screw helped define Houston’s music scene in the ’90s, when he developed a syrupy, glitchy sound by slowing down hip-hop songs on his turntables. At 29 years old, he passed away in 2000 from a codeine overdose.
