    Preview:

    • Danny McBride is directing the new ‘G.I. Joe’ movie.
    • He has also written the script.
    • Paramount is producing the latest take on the armed force.

Earlier this year, news arrived that ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ co-creator (and star) Danny McBride and controversial writer/director Max Landis were both pitching a refreshed take on Paramount’s ‘G.I. Joe’ franchise. Since shelving Landis’ effort (people know his past behavior, and knowing is half the battle), the studio has gone all in on McBride.

How all in? Try hiring McBride to direct his script –– marking his feature directorial debut, since his experience calling the shots has so far been limited to his TV work including ‘Gemstones’ and ‘Vice Principals.’

Still, we’re definitely interested to see what McBride does with the Joes –– will this mean a funnier outing for the Real American Heroes? Our first request, though: Walton Goggins as one of the baddies!

What’s the story of the new ‘G.I. Joe’ movie?

Paramount has the specific plot details locked in a vault for now, but you can bet it’ll feature a high-stakes mission for the military force, including the likes of Duke, Roadblock and Snake Eyes.

And given the hit-or-miss fortunes of the previous three cinematic efforts (the most recent, spin-off ‘Snake Eyes’ in 2021, really didn’t add much glory), a fresh start might be what this needs.

What else is Danny McBride working on?

McBride is among the executive producers on ‘Anglers’ a documentary about two brothers looking to break into the fishing world. And he’ll be back reprising the voice role of Bomb for ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3,’ due on screens on December 23rd.
