Carly Rae Jepsen Wants to Be More Than Friends on New Song “On Wires”

Carly Rae Jepsen’s lead single from her forthcoming double LP has arrived. The pop-rockish “On Wires” is the first offering from the 24-track Day and Night. Check out the Caio Vieira-drected music video for it below.

In a new interview with NME, Jepsen spoke of the single’s origins as a “come hither” track, before needing to change course on the idea she had for the song’s visuals. “I pictured chasing this man through the streets of New York,” she said, adding “But then, by the time we shot the video… was like, ‘How do I chase a man through the streets when I’m six months pregnant?’ It would look like I’m looking for child support! So my creative directors came up with this concept where there’s, like, this really beautiful tug-of-war between me and the microphone cable. And the more we talked about it, the more it became [a metaphor for] what was really going on in my life, which was me carving out space for my personal life within the business of music, while I’m in the middle of this pregnancy.”

Revisit our review of Jepsen’s 2023 album The Loveliest Time.
