Having won plenty of plaudits for his single-take directing skills on the likes of ‘Boiling Point’ and particularly last year’s powerful Netflix series ‘Adolescence’, director Philip Barantini is staying at the streaming service for a new project, a remake of 1972 Steve McQueen action movie ‘The Getaway’.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Barantini will look to offer an updated version of the movie, which itself was already remade in 1994 starring Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger.
The new take on the crime concept has a script by Peter Craig, whose previous credits include ‘The Town’ and ‘Bad Boys for Life.’

What’s the story of ‘The Getaway’?

The original movie, adapted by Walter Hill from the Jim Thompson novel and directed by Sam Peckinpah, starred McQueen and Ali MacGraw in a twisty two-hander as an ex-con and his wife who rob a Texas bank as a condition for the man’s release.
After a deadly double-cross, the couple is forced to go on the run as spurned thieves, violent thugs and the police all give chase across an overheated state.

The director already has movie sequel ‘Enola Holmes 3’ (featuring the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock’s sleuthing sister) headed to screens via Netflix on July 1.
And he and Craig are collaborating on another project for the streamer, crime thriller series ‘Rabbit Rabbit’, which is now shooting, starring Regina Hall and Adam Driver.
